The Ypres - Comines Canal
The Ypres-Comines canal, built half a century ago, was intended to connect to the Lys river and to allow boat traffic. Not any boat has although ever sailed on the canal as it was never completed, the banks collapsed and today, it has no more economic interest. ![]() 21, chemin du Moulin Soete, 7780 Comines E-mail: office.tourisme.comines-warneton@belgacom.net On the contrary, an extremely rich vegetation and fauna colonized it. This site has become an original natural area, with high ecological quality. The canal is indeed a marshy environment where water plants, trees and wild shrubs alternate and houses numerous birds. In the good season, one can hear the frogs croak and, if one is lucky, watch the weasel.
